We hope that everyone out there is doing well and enjoying life as we move on into autumn. That said, it’s officially spooky season and to celebrate we’re sharing a few ghoulish photos of some of our favorite Halloween decorations that are up at our place right now. We enjoy decorating our home throughout the final portion of the year and kick the season off annually with this somewhat over-the-top Halloween display.
We have an assortment of vintage decorations and blow molds, some newer items, and even a few homemade scares such as Jenny’s vicious man eating venus fly tray guarding the entrance to our home. We also utilize a few colored lights to add to the spooky ambiance of the yard.
Almost all of the decorations that we have have been thrifted in our quest to keep things from the landfill and add a bit of vintage style to the decor. We have quite a good collection of vintage Bastille paper decorations that we cherish dearly for their spooky vibes.
We are one of just a few homes in our neighborhood that decorates for Halloween, so many neighbors have stopped by to express their appreciation for the decorations. The decor adds a little bit of excitement to the neighborhood which many people have said helps them feel a little happier throughout the ongoing pandemic. This is something that we greatly appreciate.
We’ve stocked up on candy and goodies for the many trick-or-treaters that we anticipate. We usually get hundreds of kids and families per year visiting our home for Halloween (with some people even being driven to the neighborhood from other parts of the city), so it’s a good time to get to meet some local folks.
Kevin gets to play the part of the “familiar” in his annual photoshoot with our many pumpkins sourced from local farmers. Once again we were able to find some giant “Big Mac” variates with the one that we again took home (weighing in at around 100lbs and dwarfing Kevin).
A few of this year’s decorations were even purchased from the local “Raven House” when the home went up for sale. Raven House was the home and office of a local witch where she used to conduct palm reading and séances which adds to the spook factor for the year.
We hope you have a great (or at least good) Halloween weekend coming up in just a few days! We know that we’re all losing steam as we head through Autumn after an exhausting couple of years what with vaccines, vaccine boosters, a presidential election, an attempt at a violent overthrow of our government at the start of the year by insurrectionists, banned travel, banned work, masks non-stop, and all of the difficulties with the Pandemic and politics, so however you celebrate or don’t celebrate, know that it’s ok and justified. As for us, we may be meeting friends for a costume party and then we’ll be handing out candy to hundreds of kids Trick-or-Treating in our neighborhood on Halloween Sunday. We are crawling to many finish lines with weddings, Engagement Sessions, and foster children Portrait Sessions for DCS ALL on location in many different cities hours away literally every single week, so we’ll be thankful to make it to November on Monday!
SEMI-RELATED: We were asked to judge the local county photo contest at our local library coming up in a couple weeks, so check out the contest and get your submissions (photographs) in within the next 4 days BY this Sunday October 31st, 2021! Here’s a link to the contest (that has 14 prizes/ winners)! Jason was a winner last year and we look forward to being 2 or the 3 judges for this year’s contest-!!
