Nash Kent's South Bend Baptism at Christ the King!

In just a few days we’ll be capturing Elise & Matt’s Engagement Session in Chicago, but today we’d like to share with you little Nash Kent’s Baptism. The Baptism actually took place less then a week ago at the same elementary school that we all went to where we met Elise & her brother who was in Jenny’s class for 12 years! Here at Christ the King is also where Jenny was volunteer coaching one group of middle school girls since they were in 5th grade and those same girls JUST entered high school this month.

Nash our nephew was about 2.5 months old when he got in to visit us a couple weeks ago. This was Jason’s first time meeting him, so we had a lot of fun playing with him throughout the week & a half they were in visiting. Since this is generally the age kids are baptized in the Catholic church, his parents (our siblings) had the idea last second (after seeing that we’d professionally captured another family’s Baptism that month) to get Nash baptized while they were in town (with Jenny is the God Mother & her dad is the God Father since it’s required that the God Parents have had a Catholic Baptism, Confirmation, and more. Jenny has also been the God Mother to her cousin’s daughter Bridget since Jenny was 16 & in high school). Since everything was set up within 24 hours of Jenny’s sister getting to Indiana/ Michigan, paperwork needed to be filled out rapidly and was turned in a few days later with the Baptism itself happening just about 5 days after it was arranged/ a couple days after we physically got the debossed God Parent paperwork in.

On September 3rd on the couple days in between Jenny & her sister’s birthdays Nash Kent celebrated his Baptism!

Due to the Pandemic & short notice, Jenny’s parents, Jenny’s sister & her hubby, and Jenny were the only ones involved in the fully masked sacrament while Jason was hired to capture the photos.

Little Nash’s parents had been married in this the elementary school church just 3 years prior (almost exactly) so it was special all being back there together for this next momentous occasion.

During Nash’s Baptism we noticed that his differed even from another Catholic Baptism that we captured within the same month here in South Bend. The oil was used in different ways, different spots, and at different times than had happened at the other recent Baptism that we’d professionally captured. Most other aspects of the Baptism remained the same, though.

Catholic Baptisms for babies are not full ceremonies as weddings are. Instead of a full hour service, Baptisms are at most a half hour and the sacrament takes place around the baptismal font at the back of the church.

Closer to the end of the sacrament the baby is finally baptized-! Nash so far doesn’t like to get his wet or have anything other than his legs in water, so he may have cried for a second.

Shortly after Nash got his baptismal candle and the last blessings were said over each member of their little family.

After the sacrament was over we captured a few formal photos of Nash in his special Baptism outfit inside the church while masked…

…and then headed outside for some family group Baptism photos masked, then unmasked (since we’ve all been quarantined, medically masked up for 6 months, and have only been in each other’s homes over the past couple months of 6 months of no socializing). Little Nash did a great job and seemed happy after his Baptism!

Somehow at the end we even managed to capture a final photo of mom Jill’s baptismal candle from the 80s with Nash’s 2020 baptismal candle-! Happy 1 Week since your Baptism little Nash! We hope you all had smooth travels home a couple days ago & are glad you’re all safe & sound at home.

_________ Next Weekly Wednesday we’ll be sharing Elise & Matt’s Chicago Engagement Session-! We’ve been looking forward to this for over 6 months (so basically all of the Pandemic) since these two are hilarious and so fun. We’ll be capturing those 2 in less than a few days with their wedding coming up in Michigan in about a month & a half! We haven’t seen these two since they were chatting with us in our Consultation Office at the very start of March (before things went south in the USA mid-March and everything suddenly got shut down), so it feels good to finally get to capture these two wonderful people outside in Chicago this week (maybe also getting to mask up to meet ALL of their pets- some of whom we’ve already laughed hysterically about given the amazing pet stories we’ve been told). Check back here next week for this awesome Chicago Engagement Session!
